(MEDINA VALLEY ISD — Feb. 9, 2023) — Sarah Young strives to be the kind of teacher her students trust.
“I don’t need to be their friend,” said Young, a seventh grade math and science teacher at Loma Alta Middle School. “But getting their buy-in makes it so much easier to get them to understand the content.”
Young is Medina Valley ISD’s Secondary Teacher of the Year.
In the teacher of the year process, educators are first chosen by their campus. All eight district campus teachers then complete a written application and the top two elementary and secondary teachers are selected as finalists. Finalists are interviewed by an external committee made up of community members. The committee determines MVISD elementary and secondary teachers of the year.
